Officials at Lake Las Vegas Resort and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, are delighted with the turnout at the university's annual giving donor reception, which was held last month at the resort's SouthShore Yacht & Beach Club.
More than 250 campus representatives, prospective donors, resort residents and owners, and current annual giving donors came to meet with university President Carol C. Harter and discuss the future of the institution.
"The event had the largest turnout that the (UNLV) foundation has ever had for one of its events," Lynelle Berkey, vice president of marketing at the resort's PortaCielo development and hostess of the event, said. "We were proud to co-sponsor the event. UNLV plays an integral role in the future of Las Vegas as an important institution that reaches out to the community."
With continued support, Harter said, the university will continue to play a key role in Southern Nevada.
"My goal is for UNLV to become a major force as a public research university aspiring to the status of a first-class urban university like UCLA," Harter said. "With the private support UNLV receives from people like you, these aspirations can be met and UNLV will continue to move forward."
Ronald Boeddeker, chairman of Transcontinental Corp. and owner and developer of Lake Las Vegas Resort, said the resort's relationship with the university has been mutually beneficial.
"Lake Las Vegas Resort has enjoyed a long association with UNLV," he said. "As a golf community, we are very active with the university's championship golf team. From athletics to academics, we will continue our relationship and help to support the university's tremendous growth and success."
Don Synder, chairman of the UNLV Foundation Board of Trustees, was master of ceremonies.
Before the evening reception, guests were invited to take a cruise on the resort's 320-acre lake. Afterward, they toured the model homes at PortaCielo, a development of San Diego-based Innovative Resort Communities.
Three floor plans are available, ranging from 2,460 to 3,500 square feet. Homes are priced from $515,000. Amenities include casitas, full wet bars, enclosed courtyards, butler's pantries, fireplaces in the owner suites, plus wine or china storage.
The architectural theme at SouthShore is Mediterranean, with home sites built into the hillsides and priced from the $310,000s to $5.8 million. Lakefront courtyard villas and condominiums are also available.
SouthShore is a 550-acre, guard-gated community that offers access to golf at the private SouthShore Golf Club, which was designed by Jack Nicklaus; sailing; fishing; swimming; hiking; and bicycling.
The northern shore is home to the Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas Resort and the Reflection Bay Golf & Beach Club, which was also designed by Nicklaus.
The resort is located in Henderson. To visit, take Lake Mead Drive, seven miles east of Boulder Highway, to Lake Las Vegas Parkway. The model homes and sales office are open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
