Club proves popular at Lake Las Vegas

Pilates, Resist-A-Ball, Hatha Yoga and aqua aerobics are just a few of the group fitness programs available to members of the SouthShore Yacht & Beach Club at Lake Las Vegas Resort.
"While we offer the full-range of standard aerobic classes, our emphasis is on no-impact aerobics for our group classes," Michelle Hicks, fitness director, said recently.
"Our classes focus on function and helping our members develop long, lean muscle mass."
Group classes are small enough to provide individual attention in a group setting, according to Hicks.
"Our members enjoy the one-on-one attention while still being able to participate as a group with their friends," she said, pointing out that the Pilates classes have proved popular.
Pilates is a total body workout that teaches body control through strength, endurance and flexibility while providing a cardiovascular component.
"One of our members, through the use of sports-specific Pilates training, added 15 yards to his golf swing," Hicks said.
Additional services include fitness assessment, personal training, massage therapy and nutrition counseling.
Memberships to the private club are available to all SouthShore owners, while a limited number of invitational recallable memberships are open to non-SouthShore owners.
Club amenities include a restaurant, locker rooms, an outdoor pool and spa, a poolside grill, beach, and picnic area.
The club also offers access to the resort's 320-acre lake, which has 10 miles of shoreline. Lake activities include windsurfing, swimming, sport fishing, canoeing and boating. Gasoline-powered vessels are prohibited, but sailboats and electric boats are allowed.
Adjacent to the club is a marina, which features boat slips, a convenience store, boating and fishing supplies, and boat sales and rentals. Boating instruction and residential dock sales are also available at the marina.
Home sites are terraced into the hillsides at South- Shore, and are priced from $310,000 to $1.75 million.
Buyers can choose from three floor plans at PortaCielo. Homes range from 2,460 to 3,500 square feet, and are priced from about $500,000, plus lot premiums.
On the lake's northern shore is MonteCatini, a community of multi-acre home sites that range from $2 million to $5.8 million. Vila di Lago offers homes as large as 2,500 square feet and prices from $400,000, including lot premiums.
Two Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses are open at the resort, which is being developed in Henderson by Transcontinental Properties Inc.
To visit, take Lake Mead Drive seven miles east of Boulder Highway to Lake Las Vegas Parkway.
The information center is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
