Green Valley Corporate Center welcomes financial call center
The Henderson business community welcomed Providian Financial, the nation's sixth largest bank card provider, during the recent grand opening of its 64,000-square-foot call center at the Green Valley Corporate Center.
The 90-acre business park, developed by American Nevada Corp., is at the northwest quadrant of Green Valley Parkway and Interstate 215 in Henderson.
More than 150 guests attended the opening ceremony, including representatives of Providian Financial, the city of Henderson, American Nevada Corp., Nevada Development Authority and local business leaders. The event featured music, refreshments and the credit card company's presentation of $25,000 to the Child Care Assistance Division of the Economic Opportunity Board.
"None of this would be possible unless we had a landlord that understood our business and was willing to work closely with us to make a property available that would work well for our company," Jim Wunderman, a vice president with Providian, said. "We have had that cooperation completely with American Nevada."
Other speakers included Jim Rowe, an executive vice president with Providian; Henderson Mayor James Gibson; John Kilduff, executive vice president of American Nevada Corp.; Somer Hollingsworth, president and chief executive officer of the Nevada Development Authority; and Alice Martz, executive director of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce.
Rowe said his company considered 10 to 15 cities for the new call center before choosing Henderson. The company intends to hire about 600 employees at the new call center, which will provide customer support for the company's leading online credit card.
"The warm reception we received from Henderson, the quality of the work force and our ability to expand were what sold us on this city," he said. "We're thrilled to be here and there is more growth to come."
According to Rowe, the company started its e-commerce division about 13 months ago with "four employees and a vision of building an important business within the e-finance sector" and has grown to more than 250,000 online credit card customers and more than $750 million in retail deposits.
Providian, headquartered in San Francisco, offers several loan products including credit cards, revolving lines of credit, home loans and membership products. The company has $20 billion in assets under management, 11 million customers, and offices in California, Kentucky, New Hampshire, Texas, Utah and the United Kingdom. The company is opening a similar call center in San Antonio, Texas.
"I congratulate American Nevada for the quality and the incredible design of this entire park including its accessibility, the way it's laid out, the quality of the buildings and of the tenants it has attracted," Gibson said. "We have looked forward to the time when this park would be well on its way to being built out and we have known for a long time that we were going to have the kind of high technology here that would be a magnet for others to follow. We are working very hard to make our community not just compatible with companies that have high-tech needs, but to become a leader in that area."
American Nevada Corp. specializes in the design and development of commercial properties and master-planned communities. The company holds a commercial portfolio of more than 1.5 million square feet and about 8 million additional square feet planned for development in office, retail, industrial, gaming and medical projects.
