Buyers tout design of Huntington home

     When Shane and Tracy Thurman went house-hunting, they wanted to purchase a home that would suit their needs for many years to come. They selected the two-story, 1,983-square-foot Monterey model at Coventry Homes' The Huntington neighborhood in the southeastern valley.
      "We bought the Monterey because we wanted a larger home," Tracy Thurman said. "We also like the idea of having a loft, and I love the way the kitchen opens up into the den with the kitchen island, and the master bedroom is very large. We also like the neighborhood."
      Shane Thurman, a chef, said they plan on enjoying their back yard and its standard covered patio after their June 30 move-in date.
      According to R. Wayne Wermuth, sales manager, home buyers have been interested in the neighborhood because of its architectural features, such as covered patios and set-back garages.
      Homes are priced from the $110,000s.
      Models include the Newport, a single-story home with 1,156 square feet; the Malibu, a two-story design with 1,522 square feet; the two-story, 1,665-square-foot Del Mar; the LaJolla, a two-story home with 1,858 square feet; the two-story, 1,940-square-foot Carmel; the Carlsbad, a two-story, 1,962-square-foot home; and the Monterey plan, which measures 1,983 or 2,196 square feet.
      Homes offer two to four bedrooms and two or 2 1/2 baths. Standard features include finished two-car garages, front-yard landscaping, concrete-tile roofs, rear- and side-yard fencing, rounded wall corners, walk-in closets, oak or maple handrails, and recessed lighting.
      Eight one- and two-story model homes have also been released for sale at the neighborhood, which is nearing closeout. Wermuth said the furnished models include upgrades, options and landscaping.
      To visit, take Eastern Avenue to Silverado Ranch Boulevard and head west.
      Model homes are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except Friday, when they open at 10 a.m.
