Siena residents select home with Strip views

When Mike and Nancy Armstrong moved into their home in Siena, they did not expect to have backyard seats for the Strip's neon display 10 miles below them.
"We knew we were going to have great views of the Spring Mountain Range, but the first night we stood at our back window, we were amazed to see the lights of the southern part of the Strip," Mike Armstrong said. "We can see the (community's guard) gate from our back patio, too. It's very beautiful, tastefully done in a Mediterranean style, and the private road leading up it is lined with rows of palm trees. At night, the trees are lit up with twinkling lights ... It's like living in a resort here, except we get to stay."
The guard-gated, age-qualified community is being built by Sunrise Colony Co. in southern Summerlin, bordered on the north by Flamingo Road, on the east by Hualapai Way, on the west by Town Center Drive, and near Russell Road on the south.
The 665-acre, Italian-themed development will have about 1,900 homes, most on an 18-hole championship golf course. Fourteen single-story, detached floor plans are offered, ranging from 1,200 to 3,000 square feet.
Homes are priced from the mid-$150,000s to $450,000.
The Armstrongs looked at hundreds of model homes and dozens of developments before making their choice.
"We were very impressed with Sunrise Colony Co.'s other Las Vegas community, Red Rock Country Club, but their houses were too big for us. This is just the right size," Nancy Armstrong said. "We also appreciated the way Siena let us customize our home in so many little ways. Mike turned one bedroom into his library and study."
The community offers a variety of activities, according to Paul Smith, senior vice president and project manager
"Siena has a full-time activities manager planning events for our community," Smith said. "For example, last month, we had a black-tie Oscar party for the residents. This month, we'll be touring the art gallery at the Bellagio; next month we'll be hiking and picnicking in the nearby Red Rock Canyon."
Amenities include a golf course, with the first nine holes open for play and the second nine scheduled to open in June. Residents receive special rates and preferred tee times. The 11,800-square-foot golf club will include a pro shop and multitiered practice facility.
A 28,700-square-foot community center will feature a lobby and a cafe overlooking the golf course's lake, arts and crafts facilities, meeting rooms, a library, ballroom and 400-seat theater, cards and billiards rooms, a computer lab, and a business center.
The 15,900-square-foot fitness center, set for completion in October, will offer a wellness and diagnostic center, cardiovascular and weight room, saunas, steam and massage rooms, and an outdoor swimming pool. Additional outdoor facilities will include lighted tennis courts, boccie courts, and a resort and lap pool.
To visit, take Sahara Avenue to Town Center Drive and turn south. Proceed past Desert Inn Road and follow the signs. Models are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunrise Colony Co. is also developing Red Rock Country Club in Summerlin.
