Manager honors Homer winners

Congratulations are in order to all the Homer Award winners. The choices by a panel of four out-of-state judges reflect the high quality of construction and design in homes throughout Southern Nevada.
The gathering Oct. 16 at The Mirage was an unqualified success. Kudos go to Irene Porter of the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association and her staff for a great presentation.
Randy Black, principal of Diversified Development and incoming president of the association, had everyone in stitches as the master of ceremonies. God forbid he should let any builder go unscathed from his barbs as he introduced the finalists. Their peers especially loved it, and all the builders were good sports.
Eighteen home builders participated in the awards, submitting 125 entries in 22 categories.
The Allen Group's Residence Two at Sedona in Mesquite Vistas captured the Home of the Year honor. The judges said the 1,423-square-foot plan proved good things come in small packages. The home also won in the category of Best Single-Family Detached -- 1,401 to 1,800 square feet -- in the $125,001 to $145,000 price range.
The Allen Group also won an award for Best Single Product Advertising Campaign for the Dakota condominium product in Summerlin.
Christopher Homes, a locally based builder of luxury products, garnered the greatest number of awards -- six -- all for its Vineyards neighborhood in Summerlin: Best Single Family Detached -- 2,801-3,000 square feet -- $300,001-$350,000 for the Monticello plan; Best Single Family Detached -- 3,001-4,500 square feet -- $350,001 and over, for the Rothschild model; Best Model Home Kitchen, the Rothschild; Best Model Home Interior Decoration -- $20.01-$25 per square foot for the Rothschild; Best Merchandising Campaign; and Best Sales Office -- 501 square feet and over.
Lake Las Vegas Resort received the honor of Best Master-Planned Community Advertising Campaign. The commercials conceived by The Merica Agency used advanced computer graphics to show what the resort will look like at buildout.
Coventry Homes received recognition for Provence's Ashland/Residence 2, Weston's Princeton/Residence 2 and Harvard/Residence 3, which all won Best Single Family Detached Home in their categories based on square footage and price range. The Harvard also was singled out to receive the Judges' Special Award in recognition of "exceptional merchandising."
Provence and Weston are located in the Anthem master plan. It was a bittersweet moment for the awards recipients from Coventry because Del Webb Corp. has the subsidiary up for sale.
American West Homes received awards for Best Single Family Detached -- 1,200 to 1,400 square feet --$110,001 to $124,000 for Plan One in Silverado Terrace; Best Model Home Interior Decoration -- less than $18 per square foot for the same Plan One; and Best Sales Office -- 500 square feet and under for Silverado Terrace.
Astoria Homes took awards for Best Single Family Detached, any size -- $100,000 and under for Sparrow Plan 280 at Spring Meadows and Best Model Home Interior Decoration -- $18.01 to $20 for the Harvest in Autumn Ridge.
Coleman/Toll Brothers was honored for Best Single-Family Detached -- $250,001 to $300,000 for the Spring Glen plan at Woodlands in Summerlin.
Sunrise Colony Co. took an award for Best Model Home Interior Decoration -- over $25.01 per square foot.
Westmark Homes took Best Single Family Attached -- 1,500 square feet and under -- $140,000 and under for Sommerset Villa in Amber Ridge.
