Sun City MacDonald Ranch retiree keeps resident swimmers in shape
Art Anderson arrives at Sun City MacDonald Ranch pool at 8 a.m. regularly to instruct residents for an hour on stretching and water aerobics.
"Fifteen to 45 residents meet each morning to socialize and aquasize," Anderson said. "The classes are not only nonintimidating, but are a social event, far more entertaining than walking on the treadmill."
The low-impact water aerobics class allows residents at different skill and strength levels to participate in the same exercises at different intensities.
"You work at your own level of difficulty and push yourself in your own comfort level," he said.
"Nobody else knows the physical degree you are working at because your body is underwater. It creates quite a comfortable environment."
A retired mining engineer, Anderson moved from Minnesota with his wife, Karen, to become second-generation Del Webb Corp. development residents.
"My mother was a Sun City resident in Arizona," Karen Anderson said. "Our daughter is a third-generation resident; she and her husband just moved into Anthem Country Club."
"We chose Del Webb because we were seeking an active lifestyle and opportunities to associate with new friends," Art Anderson said. "We knew we could expect that from Sun City MacDonald Ranch."
