Dental institute finds success in Summerlin
Dentists from around the world are coming to Summerlin to advance their dental practices at the Las Vegas Dental Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. Since the facility opened in August 1998, the institute has instructed more than 1,400 dentists from as far away as Japan, New Zealand and Australia.
Located within the master-planned community at 9501 Hillwood Drive, the institute focuses on teaching the latest techniques in cosmetic dentistry and laboratory practice, as well as instructing dentists how to market their dental practices.
Jeff Rowe, the institute's chief operating officer, said the decision to locate in Summerlin resulted from a great deal of research and numerous site searches.
"We think Summerlin is the best place for us to be for a number of reasons," Rowe said. "As a facility that houses a variety of dental practices, as well as a cutting-edge educational facility, the institute is right at home in Summerlin with the community's strong mix of business and residential elements. Plus, we wanted to be in an area that would impress our clients aesthetically."
Many dentists will be visiting the facility for years to come, according to Rowe.
"Cosmetic dentistry is presently going through a period of rapid advancement. Here, we are teaching new techniques that not only improve a patient's appearance, but will also benefit the overall long-term health of their teeth. In essence, we're helping to shape the future of dentistry," he said.
Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin is located along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley and is being developed in a series of villages, each with a major park or golf course.
The community has two Tournament Players Club golf courses, three Sun City courses and two Arnold Palmer-designed courses. It is the future home of the first-ever "Bear's Best" golf course, which will replicate famous holes from Jack Nicklaus courses.
It is also home to nine major parks, more than 40 neighborhood parks, more than 40 completed miles of the 100-mile Summerlin Trail System, a dozen schools, shopping centers, business parks, medical centers and more than 250 model homes.
Single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the mid-$80,000s to more than $500,000. Custom lots from one-quarter acre to one-third acre are priced from $90,000 to $300,000. Predesigned custom homes built by featured builders are priced from $500,000 to more than $1 million.
To visit, take Summerlin Parkway to Town Center Drive and turn north, then turn east on Hillwood Drive. Or, take Sahara Avenue to Blue Willow Lane, west of Hualapai Way, and turn south. Both centers are open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
