Sunrise Colony's Siena takes shape

Construction is well under way on the first nine holes of the golf course at Siena, an age-qualified community in Summerlin, with completion expected in January 2000. The final nine holes are scheduled to open for play next summer.
Situated at an elevation of 3,100 feet, the community's homes and golf course offer views of the Las Vegas Valley. In addition, an 11,800-square-foot golf club is planned with a pro shop, multi-tiered driving range, and indoor and outdoor dining overlooking the community's private lake and 18th hole of the golf course.
The community offers a life- style that is ideal for adults, according to Paul Smith, project manager at Siena and senior vice president of Sunrise Colony Co., which is developing the community.
"Siena combines the best of both worlds," Smith said. "It's small and charming like the village of Siena in Tuscany, but it also has the recreational amenities (adults) enjoy most -- an 18-hole championship golf course, resort swimming pools, spas, lighted tennis courts, bocci ball courts, hiking trails (and) much more.
"It is a place where people can gather, socialize and take advantage of opportunities for leisure activities. Sunrise Colony Company has for more than 30 years built some of the West's finest golf course communities. We think this one will be exceptional also."
Homes in the first phase are single-story designs ranging from 1,200 to more than 3,100 square feet. Prices range from the mid-$150,000s to more than $400,000. The community will comprise 1,900 homes, one-third of which will align the golf course.
Development plans include the Village Community Center, a 28,000-square-foot facility with a ballroom, theater stage and kitchen. Also featured will be 10,000 square feet of arts and crafts rooms, meeting rooms, a library, business center, and billiard and card rooms.
A 15,900-square-foot fitness center will feature exercise equipment; an indoor swimming pool; and locker rooms with sauna, steam and massage rooms.
The 667-acre property also has a promenade adjacent to a quarter-mile long lake with waterfalls.
"The 24-hour manned, guarded gate is one of the benefits people like most about this community," Smith said. "They also like the fact that the gate eliminates unnecessary traffic. It is so quiet up here and the air is very clear."
Siena's north-south borders are Russell Road and West Flamingo Road, and its east-west boundaries are Town Center Drive and Hualapai Way.
Fourteen model homes are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. To visit, take Sahara Avenue to Town Center Center Drive and turn south. Proceed past Desert Inn Road and follow the signs.Sunrise Colony Co. is also developing Red Rock Country Club in Summerlin. With 738 acres, this guard-gated development offers homes priced from the low $300,000s to more than $1 million.
