Sun City resident takes home gold

Sun City MacDonald Ranch resident Bill Thomas has lived in the community for about two years and continues to enjoy all it has to offer, especially the health center.

"I am into fitness and improving my health. The health center helped custom tailor a program for me based on my individual health and fitness goals," Thomas said.

When Thomas and his wife retired, they moved from California to Las Vegas.

"We chose Las Vegas to retire because we wanted to live in one of Del Webb's Sun City communities. We think it's great how Sun City MacDonald Ranch offers so many activities for the residents," Thomas said.

Thomas recently represented the community at the Nevada Senior Olympics, winning the gold in the 50-meter swim for the 70-75 age group. He took silver medals in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter swims.

Thomas, however, said he swims to stay in shape, not to compete.

"The health center at the community allows me to define my personal lifestyle, especially the aquatic exercise area. You will find me swimming 30 to 40 laps every day," Thomas said.

Other residents participated in the recent competition as well. The basketball team, which took the gold medal, included Dale Hurlbert, Warren Madison and Gill Rennecker. Maggie Woods was the tennis gold medalist. Qualifiers will move on to the finals in Louisiana.

Residents recently created a program called "New Attitude" that will be geared towards weight loss and nutrition.

Homes are priced from $121,100 to $164,400.

The community's Premier Series offers five models ranging from 1,261 to 1,674 square feet.

To visit, take the Interstate 215 to Green Valley Parkway and head south. Turn east on Horizon Ridge Parkway and follow the signs. Models are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Del Webb Corp. is also developing the Anthem master plan, which includes Sun City Anthem, Anthem Country Club and Coventry Homes in Henderson.
