Sun City Anthem residents play ball

The athletic abilities of many Sun City Anthem residents is displayed in the age-qualified community's softball club, which was started two years ago for fun, fitness and camaraderie.

"Although competitive, we are mainly in it for social play," Arthur Werner, club president, said. "It's all based on enjoyment. We get great exercise and everyone has a wonderful time."

The group plays every Tuesday and Friday, and have joined a senior league run by the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department.

"A senior night league was started recently," club member Shelly Kurzweil said. "We kid around a lot and play hard, but when the game is over, we're all friends."

Werner, a clothing manufacturer for 30 years, and his wife, Margot, feel as if they have hit a home run with their decision to move to the Henderson community. They have two sons who live in the valley.

"It was a love affair from the first day. You can't beat this lifestyle," he said. "We love Las Vegas. I just wish we came here 10 years earlier."

They bought the Concord model, which features dual master bedrooms, a den, great room, dining area, wet bar, and three-car garage with a golf cart area. It measures 2,510 square feet.

Nineteen models ranging from 1,235 to 3,009 square feet are featured and priced from the high $170,000s to more than $500,000.

Community amenities include The Revere at Anthem, which offers the Lexington and the Concord, both of which are 18-hole championship golf courses.

Anthem Center provides fitness, social and recreational opportunities for residents, as well as Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, which is open to the public.

To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, turn left on Anthem Parkway and follow the signs. Models are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
