Schools bring family to Summerlin

Schools within the Summerlin master-planned community have played an important part in 15-year-old Ashley Naughton's life.

"My parents chose Summerlin because of the reputation of its schools. I am definitely a product of Summerlin schools, having attended both Lummis and Bryan elementary schools and Becker Middle School," she said.

Naughton and her family moved to The Pueblo village from Reno nine years ago. She is a student at the Las Vegas Academy for the Performing Arts, as well as an advanced student at the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre, located at the Donald W. Reynolds Cultural Center in Summerlin.

"It was a major plus when the Academy moved to Summerlin. I was an Academy student when it was located on the other side of town, so having the studio here just minutes from home has really simplified my life -- not to mention my mom's," Naughton said.

While dancing has always been a big part of her life, Naughton admits that The Pueblo Park is her favorite place in Summerlin.

"The swings on The Pueblo Park playground mean home to me. Even today, when I want to think and get away from it all, I am drawn to those swings. I love spending time in the park," she said.

Summerlin, a development of The Howard Hughes Corp., aligns the western edge of the valley and is comprised of villages. It is home to eight golf courses, more than 100 parks, 105 miles of trails, 17 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities, business parks and nearly 100 model homes.

Single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom-home sites ranging from one-half acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from the high $300,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $500,000 to more than $1 million.

Apartments offer monthly rents from the high $700s.

To visit the community's home finding center, travel west on Sahara Avenue past Hualapai Way to Town Center Drive and turn north. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara Avenue and head east to Town Center. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
