Las Ventanas heralds 'life care'

Las Ventanas, a life care community under construction at the corner of Town Center Drive and West Charleston Boulevard in Summerlin, offers seminars to senior citizens interested in learning more about their options for retirement.

"Since construction began on Las Ventanas, seniors are increasingly more aware of the benefits of living in a life care community," marketing director Suzanne Caldarello said. "They've done their research and realize that similar communities in other parts of the country often have waiting lists years long."

The seminars, offered at 10 a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, focus on the planned development that offers the opportunity to live independently in private residences, as well as on-site assisted-living and skilled-nursing health centers that are available to residents when needed.

The project will feature 198 condominium-style apartments, six 1,500-square-foot villas, 60 private assisted-living suites and 60 private accommodations for skilled-nursing care. Amenities include all-electric kitchens, washers and dryers, gas fireplaces, 24-hour emergency call systems and security, storage areas, paid utilities (except telephone), weekly housekeeping, linen service, and basic cable television.

The 26,000-square-foot common areas will include a main dining room, private dining rooms, lounge, cyber café, library, exercise room and wellness center, an enclosed pool, hair salon and barbershop, business center, and performing arts center.

"We're fortunate to be one of a few select life care communities to offer Masterpiece Living ... Based on years of research conducted in successful aging through the MacArthur Foundation, Masterpiece Living is setting the stage for a revolutionary retirement lifestyle that frees individuals to achieve new heights of wellness, activity and personal growth," Caldarello said.

Those who reserve homes during construction are offered a benefits package that includes discounts from area merchants.

Westport Senior Living, Greystone Communities and American Baptist Homes of the West are jointly developing the community.

A full-scale model is featured at the information center at 10000 W. Charleston Blvd. It is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment.
