Owner lauds Harrison's garage door insulation

Homeowner David Vail has more time to spend on do-it-yourself projects by having Harrison Door Co. insulate his garage doors.

"With a family of four, a pool, a yard and four cars, I always have projects on my list of things to do. Having a comfortable, cool environment around my work area helps make the work more enjoyable," he said.

He said the insulation also minimized hot air entering the house from the garage, saving energy and money.

"On the weekends when the family is going in and out of the house so many times to do activities in the garage, we would feel the heat actually entering the interior of the house. Obviously the heat was counteracting the cooling process of our air conditioner. But now we don't have that problem."

Insulation also increases a garage door's durability and stability, and minimizes outdoor noise, according to Don Harrison, president of the Henderson-based company.

The company manufactures and installs energy-saving insulation with a multilayer foam interior and laminate exterior. They are custom-made to fit the panels of sectional garage doors.

Insulation may be added to an existing door or the door can be replaced with an insulated model. It takes about an hour to install the insulation and three hours to replace the door.

There is an extra charge for garage doors with windows.

A one-year parts and labor warranty is included.

For safety reasons, Harrison and the garage door industry recommends that insulation be installed by professionals who can adjust tension springs to balance the additional weight.

The family-owned firm, which was established in 1977, is located at 1951 Ramrod Ave. It also has an office in Northern Nevada.
