Energy Star Partners leads campaign
With homes nationwide linked to the production of more than 20 percent of all greenhouse gasses, building energy-efficient homes is essential to reducing pollution and conserving natural resources, according to Kathy Hilty, director of marketing at Pardee Homes. Pardee, the first national builder to commit to building only Energy Star homes, is a founding member of Nevada Energy Star Partners, a coalition of Southern Nevada home builders, developers, retailers, finance companies, energy consultants and utility companies dedicated to energy conservation. With Pardee and The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin, the largest community to join the campaign, among its membership, the partnership is a leader within the nationwide program. "Nevada Energy Star Partners is proud to take the lead in energy conservation and to educate homeowners on the importance of energy conservation within the home. With 19 builder partners, who are dedicated to building more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly homes, we are working towards a cleaner, safer valley," Hilty said. In addition, Southern Nevada builders offer programs, such as Pardee's LivingSmart, to make environmentally conscious choices accessible in mainstream housing. "Drought conditions and the rising cost of energy have brought the conservation awareness to an all-time high among home builders," Hilty said.
