Mixed-use concept debuts in District

SPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE

The District at Green Valley Ranch, the first open-air metropolitan lifestyle center in the Las Vegas area, offers something for the whole family, even man's best friend, according to John Kilduff, president of American Nevada Co., the developer.

Located at the southwest corner of Interstate 215 and Green Valley Parkway in Henderson, the retail and residential development is home to more than 40 boutiques, both casual and fine dining restaurants, 88 lofts and flats, as well as Class A office space. It is adjacent to the Green Valley Ranch resort, which features a casino, restaurants, nightclub, spa and movie theaters, and is also adjacent to Liberty Point Center, featuring a 7,500-seat amphitheater which will be the stage for Romeo and Juliet in October.

The developer's concept for a mixed-use setting follows a pattern of successful centers around the country, including ones in Arizona, Los Angeles and San Jose.

"The idea of having a place where entertainment, shopping, and dining co-exist with upscale living is completely unique to Southern Nevada," Kilduff said. "The District is stylish with a metropolitan flair and incorporates a typical pedestrian-friendly northeast `main street' ambiance with entrances to the shops fronting a tree-lined street."

The tree-lined street offers pet-friendly amenities such as doggy bags in many of the tree wells and the soon-to-open Flea Bags Barkery and Bow-tique, featuring accessories and fresh-baked treats for dogs and cats. Many shops give out doggy treats in addition to providing water bowls for thirsty pets.

The retail shops include some that are new to the Las Vegas area, including REI, a high-end renowned supplier of specialty outdoor gear; Coldwater Creek, specializing in women's casual clothing and accessories; Fidelity Investments; and the soon-to-open Anthropologie, a national chain offering clothing and decorator items.

Other shops include Ann Taylor Loft, Bluestone Gallery, Brighton Collectibles, Chico's, DaMincci Jewelers, Floral Essence, Francesca's Collections, Gymboree, Hallmark, J. Jill, Jos. A. Bank Clothier, Kevoman, Mel Fisher's Treasures, My Gym Children's Fitness, Optic Gallery, Portfolio, Pottery Barn, Pure Beauty, Roni Josef Design, Sideline Sports, Talbot's, The Sharper Image, White House/Black Market, and Williams-Sonoma. Restaurants and specialty food shops include Al's Garage, Ben & Jerry's, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Ethel M Chocolates, Kennedy Tavern, Lucille's Smokehouse Bar-B-Que, Panera Bread, P.F. Chang's and Tacone.

The landscaped streets serve as a venue for shopping, as well as sitting and relaxing, or enjoying music. A center stage hosts a series of musical acts from 5 to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays throughout July, including jazz, rhythm and blues, folk, calypso, Latin and contemporary rhythms. All concerts are free.

Upcoming acts include Michael Soli and Anne Donahue, Yacht Club, Gypsy Nights, Island Tyme, David Van Such, Lindsay and Joey, and Nicholas Cole Trio.

Another free activity is tai chi, a meditative art, which will be taught on Tuesdays throughout July from 9 to 10 a.m. by John Spiel from the Lohan School of Martial Arts. Classes will be taught on the lawn near the center stage. Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothes and shoes and bring plenty of water.

General hours for The District are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Individual store and restaurant hours may vary.
