Retired teachers dance to Sun City Anthem

     Retired educators Art and Ramona Konrad, who are also professional ballroom dance instructors on cruise ships, said that Sun City Anthem danced its way into their hearts when they searched for a retirement home.
      "We considered eight different Del Webb properties, including Phoenix, Sacramento and Palm Desert. But when we saw Sun City Anthem, we knew we found the home we wanted," Ramona Konrad said.
      A former professor and dean of the Math Department of Fullerton Community College, Art Konrad also authored math textbooks. His wife of 52 years taught middle school math.
      "People are often surprised that a couple of math teachers shifted to something as creative as ballroom dancing," Konrad said. "We just love it. We have been teaching dance for eight years, and have been on 95 cruises. It's a great way to travel the world, and have fun."
      The couple selected Sun City Anthem for the lifestyle it offers.
      "I like the availability of all the activities offered at the Anthem Center," Konrad said. "The ballroom is beautiful. We attended line dance classes there, which is great exercise. Dancing also keeps your mind active, it's fun, and a big plus is the social aspect with wonderful, friendly people."
      Anthem Center, located in the heart of Sun City Anthem, is the largest recreational facility Del Webb has ever built at about 75,000 square feet. It offers fitness, social and recreational opportunities for residents as well as Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, which is open to the public.
      The Konrads purchased Sun City Anthem's Monticello model, a 2,752-square-foot, two-bedroom home.
      "I like the large number of cabinets in the kitchen and the big closet in the master bedroom," Konrad said. "It fits our needs perfectly."
      Sun City Anthem offers 15 models, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and more through the community's Gold Key program. Homes are priced from the $120,000s to more than $500,000.
      To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway (formerly Lake Mead Drive). Models are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
