Developer details progress at MacDonald Highlands

MacDonald Highlands has reached several milestones during the first half of 2000, according to Rich MacDonald, president of MacDonald Cos., developer of the community.
"In the last six months, we opened DragonRidge, the community's private equity golf and country club; we now have several custom homes available for tours and purchase; and the Toll Brothers neighborhood of Stonehaven, MacDonald Highlands' only semicustom-home neighborhood, hosted the grand opening of its model homes," MacDonald said.
He pointed out that about 20 percent of a planned 550 lots have been sold, with 11 homes under construction; five customized homes are available for purchase; and another 26 are in various stages of the design-review process.
With most of the infrastructure completed, the developer is focusing on the community amenities.
DragonRidge golf course, which opened for play in May, has received consideration from the PGA Tour to be a host course for the Invensys Classic. And work is being done on a linear park with walking trails, a gazebo, picnic area and playground.
"The next six months may be more active than the last six," MacDonald said. "By the end of the year, several new custom homes will have been completed; one community park will be complete with two others under development; the DragonRidge clubhouse will be under construction; and my wife Claire and I will be moving into our new home in MacDonald Highlands."
Seven custom neighborhoods are under development, with lots that range from one-third acre to more than 2 acres. Home sites are priced from $135,000 to nearly $2 million.
The 30,000-square-foot clubhouse is scheduled to open in fall 2001 with a golf shop, exercise facility, swimming pool and dining facilities. A temporary clubhouse is open.
Three parks will encompass 10 acres with tennis and volleyball courts, play areas and picnic facilities. Five miles of trails will also be developed.
To visit, take Lake Mead Drive to Valle Verde Drive, turn south and proceed to Horizon Ridge Parkway.
Office hours at the community are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
