Coast to Coast offers package dealBy HOLLY IVY DE VOREREAL ESTATE WRITER
Coast to Coast Real Estate Inc. was founded last year on the idea that everyone enjoys getting something for free. Consider the company's pledge: "Buy or sell any home and we will move you across town or across the country for free." Jeff Stelter, co-owner of the company, said the pledge is a unique marketing tool in a competitive industry. "There are about 11,000 other real estate agents in Las Vegas who have access to the same tools and training. Being able to provide beyond-and-above services to our clients, like moving them, sets us apart and at the same time provides a valuable service," he said. "It's not just free for people who are leaving Las Vegas. We also offer free moving to people who buy a home with us and are moving to the (Las Vegas) Valley. This keeps our moving trucks full. What makes us unique is that we go anywhere in the continental United States." Stelter and his business partner, Aaron Taylor, offer the service through Quick Move, a Nevada corporation in which they are principals. "(We) had worked at a different realty firm together and came up with this idea, and it was successful with our clients there. Last November, we opened our own doors with six agents and now we have 31," Stelter said. "We charge a home seller a 6 percent commission, and a portion of this commission is used to cover the cost of the move. If we lose money on a move, we lose money on it, but it balances out in the end since some of the moves are in-town or to an adjacent state. The moving company's costs are covered, but it doesn't make much extra." Likewise, sales agent Jeff Dubois said, if the firm represents a buyer, a portion of the agent's commission, which is paid by the seller, is placed into the moving fund. "We agents know that we will be giving up a portion of our commissions to the company to pay for these moves. But the money that we lose in commissions we gain with the number of sales. We do volume. As a company, we've sold more than 180 homes since we went into business," Dubois said. Stelter said the moving trucks -- two semis that go over the road and two trucks for in-town use -- have traveled "over 100,000 highway miles. We've done moves to as far as Bangor, Maine." "If you are moving to or from California, Utah or Arizona, you can use the entire 48-foot truck because it is a one-day turnaround," he said. "But, if you are moving to a different state, you are allotted half of the 48-foot truck. Those who move in town get the entire truck." Coast to Coast Real Estate is located at 4286 S. Durango Drive, Suite D.
