New golf course opens at Del Webb's Sun City Anthem
Del Webb Corp.'s second Sun City Anthem golf course, the Concord, is scheduled to open Saturday, June 1. The 7,050-yard course was designed by architect Greg Nash and PGA Hall-of-Famer Billy Casper, and incorporates resort-style landscaping. "This course is a combination of parallel fairways and single fairways that meander through the canyons," Nash said. "We have also designed some very dramatic elevation changes from the tees to greens, which is a pretty dynamic view when players are hitting off the tee." Nash cited certain noteworthy holes. One is the 18th, which is a downhill par-5 that drops about 100 feet from tee to green, and contains 18 sand traps. Another was the 11th hole. "Hole 11 is a very short par-5. It's a `risk-reward' golf hole, meaning it's a short par where you can reach the green in two, but have to hit a very exact shot to get there," he said. A tunnel below Hampton Road provides access from the clubhouse to the practice field across the street, called "The Battlefield." It is a 13-acre, 330-yard facility that accommodates as many as 50 players. Special rates and tee times are available. The 23,000-square-foot clubhouse features a pro shop, a subterranean 165-golf-cart storage area, and a casual restaurant and sports bar. Three banquet rooms are available, each with views of the valley. They offer a capacity of as many as 180 people if they are used as one large room. A patio and lawn also can be used for events. The Revere at Anthem Golf Club also features the Lexington, a 7,143-yard, par-72, 18-hole championship golf course, the first of three planned courses that wind their way through the age-qualified community. Home sites adjacent to the Concord's fairways are available. Nineteen floor plans are offered, measuring from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet. Prices range from the low $140,000s to more than $500,000. To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past Lake Mead Drive. Models are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To visit The Revere at Anthem Clubhouse, continue south on Anthem Parkway and turn right on Hampton Road.
