Summerlin exec reports
strong new-home sales
The master-planned community of Summerlin is slightly outpacing its 1999 new-home sales, and is on pace to exceed 3,000 new-home sales for the second consecutive year, according to Stew Gibbons, executive vice president of The Howard Hughes Corp., the developer.
"Nine years after the first family moved into Summerlin, more than 250 families each month are choosing to make the community their home," Gibbons said. "Summerlin's unprecedented success and popularity ... is the result of years of careful planning, an unbeatable location along the Las Vegas Valley's western rim, impressive mountain and city views, a genuine sense of community nurtured by extensive programming, and homes in all styles and price ranges."
Home to more than 50,000 residents, the community was first named as the country's best-selling master-planned community in 1992, less than two years after initial development began. According to an independent survey by Robert Charles Lesser & Co, the community has maintained that position seven of the past eight years.
"Summerlin's visual appeal initially underscored the quality for which the community became known," Gibbons said. "Double tree-lined streets, distinctive village walls and architecture, well-appointed parks, miles of trails, and award-winning landscapes became Summerlin's first hallmarks."
The community features more than 250 model homes in more than 60 neighborhoods. More than 30 home builders are offering houses, townhomes and condominiums priced from $90,000 to more than $700,000. Custom lots ranging from one-quarter acre to one-third acre are priced from $80,000 to $300,000, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $500,000 to more than $1 million.
Amenities include golf courses, 10 major parks, trails, schools, shopping centers, houses of worship, medical centers and business parks.
Residents can also participate in several activities offered by the community association, including clubs, classes, sports leagues, special events and seasonal activities.
To visit the sales centers, take Summerlin Parkway to Town Center Drive and turn north, then turn east on Hillwood Drive. Or, take Sahara Avenue to Blue Willow Lane, west of Hualapai Way, and turn south. The centers are open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
