Bear's Best hosts `Best Dressed' tourney

The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of the Summerlin master-planned community, recently paired with a local retailer to host a "Best Dressed at Bear's Best" golf tournament at Bear's Best Las Vegas in The Ridges at Summerlin.

According to Dan Van Epp, president of The Howard Hughes Corp., 28 golfers were invited by Phil Hernandez, personal shopper at Neiman Marcus, to participate.

"The tournament was not only a unique perk for loyal Neiman Marcus customers, it was also a great opportunity for us to showcase Summerlin's most exclusive living environment to this select group," Van Epp said.

Prizes were awarded to the four "best-dressed" players, and ugly ties were given to the four "worst-dressed" participants.

The Ridges is located at the western end of Desert Inn Road on a hillside adjacent to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and the Spring Mountains. It is unfolding around Jack Nicklaus' Bear's Best Las Vegas, which features replicas of signature holes from Nicklaus' courses throughout the western United States and Mexico.

"The dramatic and breathtaking beauty of the area is guiding development of The Ridges as a natural living environment unlike any other in the Las Vegas Valley," Van Epp said. "Architectural detail and design in The Ridges will carefully blend into the natural environment. In The Ridges, nature is tantamount to man-made beauty. ... The Ridges' mountain, valley and golf course views, coupled with its secluded location and phenomenal amenities, make it a truly special place."

Plans for the guard-gated village include a park with a barbecue area and pavilion.

Promontory, the first custom neighborhood under development in the village, features lots measuring from about one-half acre to three-quarters of an acre that are priced from the high $300,000s to nearly $1 million. Its fourth and final phase was recently released and includes lots more than one-half acre that are priced from $514,000 to $679,000.

Summerlin has ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community nine of the past 10 years. Situated along the western rim of the valley, the community is unfolding in villages, each with a park or golf course.

It is home to eight golf courses, more than 100 parks, nearly 105 completed miles of trails, 17 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities, business parks and nearly 100 model homes.

Houses, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom lots measuring from one-half acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from the high $300,000s to nearly $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $1.5 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the high $700s.

To visit the custom-lot sales center, travel west on Desert Inn Road until it ends in The Ridges and turn left. The building is on the right. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
