Paseos park opens in Summerlin

A new 12.5-acre park has opened in Summerlin's The Paseos Village, offering its more than 3,500 residents junior soccer fields, tee-ball fields, sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, children's play areas, picnic pavilions and open turf areas.

Summerlin is home to more than 100 parks that range in size from less than one acre to nearly 70 acres, most of which are designed around a specific recreational theme such as soccer, baseball, tennis or trails.

The Paseos Park, however, is designed to accommodate a variety of recreational interests as well as casual and informal play, according to Julie Cleaver, director of planning for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin.

"No matter what your recreational passion, there is a park in Summerlin for you," she said. "Every park is different. And with more than 100 parks in the community, we have many opportunities to customize parks for specific needs and interests."

Other park amenities within the master plan include swimming pools, horseshoes, bocce ball, shuffleboard courts and a tricycle course.

"The list of amenities is constantly expanding with the addition of new parks. It's only going to get better," Cleaver said.

The Paseos is a 375-acre village located near the Las Vegas Beltway and West Charleston Boulevard. It comprises 14 residential neighborhoods, where more than 1,200 homes have sold.

An elementary school and house of worship are planned.

Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., an affiliate of General Growth Properties Inc., Summerlin began to take shape in 1990.

The 22,500-acre master plan aligns the western rim of the valley and continues to unfold in residential villages, recreation and cultural facilities, schools, business parks and commercial centers with 7,500 acres still to develop.

Residential styles range from single-family homes to townhomes, condominiums and lofts, priced from the low $200,000s to more than $2 million. Custom-home sites in The Ridges are priced from the $500,000s. Monthly rent for apartments starts from the $900s.
