Jane Casovan is a travel nurse and homeowner at Siena, an age-qualified village in Summerlin. Her career and home go well together because Casovan is often asked to travel at a moment's notice to one of several hospitals around the world. In turn, when duty calls, the community's guard-gated entrance and 24-hour security patrol provide her with peace of mind. Casovan, an intensive care nurse, was impressed by the community's network of hiking and biking trails, which allow her to pursue her athletic lifestyle. For the past 15 years, she has run marathons and partaken in distance cycling wherever she has been stationed or visited, including England, Italy, Czech Republic, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Israel and Hawaii. "I (also) wanted a community with a fitness center where I can swim year-round and do strength training with weights," she said. The fitness center is slated to open soon with a cardiovascular and weight room, wellness center, saunas, steam rooms, massage rooms, and a 25-meter indoor lap pool. There will also be an outdoor lap pool and resort pool. Meantime, Casovan takes her tennis game seriously and may be seen on the lighted courts at the community, or on its golf course, where she is taking golf lessons. Having grown up in an athletic family, Casovan doesn't see her lifestyle as being too strenuous. "I exercise because it makes me feel better. I like it best early in the morning when there's not a lot of people out. I also like to eat doughnuts and drink coffee. And I love wine," she said. "Now, I am also looking forward to exploring my creative side here at Siena." Casovan plans to enroll in art and craft classes in the community center, a 40,000-square-foot facility with an art studio, meeting rooms, a library, grand ballroom and theater, card and billiards rooms, and a computer and business center. There are 14 floor plans available, ranging from 1,200 to more than 3,000 square feet. Casovan chose the Milan Collection's Plan 5110, a 1,242-square-foot home with two bedrooms and two baths. "I wanted a place that was small and compact," she said. Homes are priced from the mid-$150,000s to more than $400,000. To visit the model village, take Sahara Avenue to Town Center Drive and turn south. Proceed 2 1/2 miles south, past Desert Inn Road, and follow the signs. Models are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
